Here are some answers to some Frequently Asked Questions regarding our turf project:
The turf will have to be replaced every 10 years. Is there a plan in place for that?
- The initial cost of the project includes ground work, excavation, drainage, and so forth. The actual turf "carpet" has a life span of 10-12 years. There will be a reserve fund established in which funds will be dedicated to replacing the turf when it is time to (similar to the track project and how it is resurfaced every 10 years). We estimate in what we currently spend to maintain our natural grass field (fertilizer, seed, water, paint, maintenance cost), we will actually save money over a 10 year span by setting aside funds to replace the turf.
Where is the money for this project coming from?
- It is our goal not to use ANY tax dollars for this project. It is our mission to raise all the funds for the project through private donations and contributions from individuals and corporations. If there is a contribution from the school board, it will be minimal. The school board has also agreed to pay for the upkeep and maintenance of the turf field after original installation. This cost will be the same, if not less, than the current maintenance funding that is budgeted for our natural grass field.
How is scheduling of practices and events going to work?
- When the field is operational, no single coach or program will have any priority over another program. Scheduling of events and practices on the turf field will go through the middle school and high school athletic directors. With each program, priority will be given to games/performances over practices.
